Great weather for our autumn leaf exploration this week! We admired all the colours, asked why trees lose their leaves and tried to understand the chemical changes that happen in the autumn leaf. Our leaf collecting wander resulted in with a great assortment of shapes and colours. We pressed the leaves into lumps of clay using a rolling pin and painted them. This airdrying clay is lovely to handle and dries in a few days. More clay was handed round. The age range of the group was 2 to 11 but there was something to absorb everyone today and we rounded off with making hot chocolate from lighting the Kelly Kettles. It’s always nice to be asked what these are by adults who haven’t seen these ‘magic’ kettles before. Parents and carers don’t always get to take part in this sort of outdoor learning which is often in school hours.
